A new study has named the Los Angeles Lakers as the fourth-most expensive NBA team to support, with fans expected to spend $334.74 on average to attend a game at the Crypto.com Arena.
NBA experts at Fadeaway World analyzed all 30 NBA teams to determine the cheapest and most expensive teams to support. To create their ranking, they looked at the combined cost of a home game, a team jersey, a 16oz beer and a hotdog.

The Memphis Grizzlies, whose home arena is the FedExForum, are revealed to be the cheapest NBA team to support, with fans spending an average of just $159.74 for a ticket, beer, hotdog and unisex jersey. Tickets to see the Grizzlies at home are the cheapest of all teams, costing an average of just $25 each, while a jersey is $119.99, a beer is $9.75, and a hotdog is $5. The Grizzlies hold the record for the longest winning streak in franchise history – an impressive 16 games in the 2012-2013 season!
The second cheapest team to support are the Atlanta Hawks, whose home arena is the State Farm Center. As a Hawks fan, you can expect to spend an average of $164.38, with tickets accounting for $34 of the total. The Hawks were found to have the second cheapest beer of the teams at $7.39 and the third cheapest hotdogs at only $3. The Atlanta Hawks were founded in 1946 as the Buffalo Bisons, making them one of the oldest teams in the NBA.
Following third on the list of the cheapest NBA teams to support are the New Orleans Pelicans, costing fans $166.62 each on average. This includes a home game ticket at the Smoothie King Center for just $27 on average, the second cheapest on the list, a 16-ounce beer for $13.13 and a hotdog for $6.50. Point and shooting guard Jrue Holiday, is the only player in the Pelicans history to win the NBA Sportsmanship Award in the 2018-2019 season.
The Detroit Pistons place fourth, where home games are played at the Little Caesars Arena. Fans can expect to spend $182.38 each on average, with a ticket costing approximately $50 this season, which is the seventh cheapest on the list, and a team jersey costing $199.99. The Detroit Pistons have often been associated with a team-oriented style of play, emphasizing teamwork, defense, and a selfless approach to the game.
Completing the top five cheapest NBA teams to support are the Portland Trail Blazers, whose fans can expect to spend an average of $184.87 to watch a home game at the Moda Center. A ticket will cost $46, which is the sixth cheapest on the list, and a hotdog will cost $6.75. The Blazers were founded in 1970 and joined the NBA as an expansion team, but quickly established themselves as a competitive force in the league.

At the other end of the scale, the New York Knicks, whose home arena is Madison Square Garden, are the most expensive NBA team to support. Fans can expect to spend a whopping $334.74 in total for a ticket, jersey, hotdog and beer, with a home game ticket accounting for $190 of the cost – which is the most expensive of any team.
The Golden State Warriors are the second most expensive team to support, with fans paying an average of $332.50 to support the team in their home arena, the Chase Center. The team holds the record for the most wins in a season, with 73 victories in the 2015-2016 campaign.
Third on the list of the most expensive teams to support are the Boston Celtics, whose home arena is the TD Garden. On average, Celtics fans can anticipate spending $318.36 each, with a ticket costing $185 on average.
The Los Angeles Lakers are the fourth most expensive team for fans to support, with a total average spend of $300.37 to attend a home game at the Crypto.com Arena. Rounding out the five most expensive teams to support are the Dallas Mavericks, with fans spending an average of $269.74 to attend a home game at the American Airlines Center.

“It is interesting to see how drastically the average cost differs for fans of different NBA teams. By calculating the average cost of a home game ticket, a unisex jersey, and the cost of a beer and hotdog at each stadium, we can identify which team’s supporters can expect to shell out the most money this season.
“The Boston Celtics are currently at the top in the latest Power Rankings, reflecting their high cost to attend their games, whereas the Memphis Grizzlies are currently 27th, hence their lower cost for supporting fans. It would be fascinating to observe any changes in these current prices as a result of teams moving up or down in the Power Rankings.”

Methodology: Ticket prices for the next five home games (as of 21st Feb 2024) were collected from StubHub, the median prices of each team’s unisex jersey were collected from the NBA Store, and beer and hotdog prices for each stadium were collected from Bookies.com. These costs were totaled to find how much it costs on average to support each NBA team.
