2021 NFL Mock Draft 1st Round Update after trades

2021 NFL Mock Draft 1st Round Update after trades

2021 NFL Mock Draft 1st Round Update

There are massive trades the completely change my mock draft. So this is the late March/early April update. Which also includes some pro days now shown as well. Once again, I will not predict trades. But unlike last year, I expect some more in the first round.

1 – Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence – QB – Clemson

No changes.

2 – New York Jets – Zach Wilson – QB – BYU

My first thought was they should take Sewell. But with next year’s quarterback class taking a dip and Wilson looking solid on pro day, this makes sense. And if they weren’t in on a quarterback, wouldn’t they trade down? Just a hunch. No changes.

3. San Francisco 49ers Via Dolphins Via Texans – Trey Lance – QB – North Dakota State

Would they go through all of this for an offensive tackle or another tight end when they resigned Trent Williams and they have a man named George Kittle there? Not me. Going QB and the tape says Lance. 49er fans want him. They are very high on him and feel better with him over Fields and Jones.

4. Atlanta Falcons – Micah Parsons – LB – Penn State

I can see them trading down. But of all things that need work, the defense needs a rebuild. Matty Ice will throw around 4K yards no matter the line. History says so. This guy’s a stud. Outside Sewell, the best available. A reach for some, but not a team with defense that gets into shambles half the time while the media still blames Matt Ryan because they think he’s not Drew Brees during the times where his team defenses couldn’t stop traffic cones from scoring.

5. Cincinnati Bengals – Penei Sewell – OT – Oregon

This is best available and number one need. Put it on the board.

6. Miami Dolphins Via Eagles – DeVonta Smith – WR – Alabama

Trading down for assets making the Texans look foolish. Tua gets his guy after all. I don’t buy this thing about his weight. 170 pounds or not, that gifted body won him a Heisman.

7. Detroit Lions – Ja’Marr Chase – WR – LSU

With 25.6M+ in Cap space available Jones and Galladay walked out the door. Goff needs a target. The WR1 at LSU the guy playing behind him at WR2 was Justin Jefferson second in ROY. That’s the play.

8. Carolina Panthers – Justin Fields – QB – Ohio State

No change. But Panther fans will feel better on not having a what-if. They need to address the quarterback spot. That’s simply it.

9. Denver Broncos – Caleb Farley – CB – Virginia Tech

Kyle Fuller did get signed, but Ronald Darby’s history is concerning. He played well and one of them can play situational nickel defense. The secondary looks scary for whoever plays Denver. With Drew Lock, they are going to need it. No change.

10. Dallas Cowboys – Patrick Surtain II – CB – Alabama

JerryWorld needs to stop neglecting the defense. After Bryon Jones left and the injury bug hit Dallas, the defense was historically bad. He needs to act. Secondary in the NFC East is a must. No change.

11. New York Giants – Rashawn Slater – OT – Northwestern

Leonard Williams signed a multi-year deal. They retooled the front seven a little. But the O-Line needs work. Plain and simple. And with that, the big hype of this team is in the balance of Daniel Jones. Give him protection.

12. Philadelphia Eagles Via Dolphins Via 49ers – Kyle Pitts – TE – Florida

Zach Ertz is likely being shipped out. Goedert is there and Pitts will be that Weapon X everyone is talking about. No other team right now is bound to go out of their way for him. Eagles seems like a good match.

13. Los Angeles Chargers – Jaylen Waddle – WR – Alabama

O-Line looking good and need a wide receiver to catch throws from Herbert. Waddle is the best on the board.

14. Minnesota Vikings – Kwity Paye – Edge – Michigan

The defense needs work. The Head Coach even said it. Some will say it starts with the pass rush. He is also the next best available.

15. New England Patriots – Trevon Moehrig – S – TCU

The Patriots still have a hole at safety after Chunk retiring. No change. I don’t see a move for quarterback. The Pats also have always taken QBs late and don’t develop WRs. Plus not ruling out Jimmy G coming home.

16. Arizona Cardinals – Christian Darrisaw – OT – Virgina Tech

If the Cardinals doesn’t give their cornerstone quarterback any blocking for the third year in a row the GM should be punished. Simple. No change.

17. Las Vegas Raiders – Jayson Oweh – Edge – Penn State

I know they got needs, but pass rush is still weak. Don’t think they will reach for next O-Lineman on the list. Which is why I could also see them trade down. But this looks like the pick to keep the AFC West QB’s in check.

18. Miami Dolphins – Tevin Jenkins – OT – Oklahoma State

This is a little bit of a reach to get him. But I don’t see them trading down a second time. Get Tua pass protection. Otherwise he will be throwing an average 5-6 yards a pass again and the system won’t work. Get it done. No change.

19. Washington Football Team – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah – LB – Notre Dame

Let me explain. “Best player available” theory. According to PFF (Pro Football Focus) so far that would be a defensive tackle. Washington has one of the best D-Lines at the moment. Wide Receiver I written off after Curtis Samuel was signed. Third best available is a needed position. J.O.K. welcome to Washington. I think Ron is going to like this guy.

20. Chicago Bears – Mac Jones  – QB – Alabama

The disaster continues. Dalton isn’t playing long term, Nick Foles is being neglected once again, and Mac Jones will be thrown to the wolves because it is leaning towards the GM and Head Coach have a good chance of getting canned after this year. DA BEARS are not looking good. But hopefully they have a quarterback of the future. But hey at least he played at a good school which helps.

21. Indianapolis Colts – Christian Barmore – DT – Alabama

With TY Hilton back in Indy I’m not going WR here. Some wondering how/why Barmore fell so low. It came down to needs. There are other needs for the Colts, but imagine how Barmore and Buckner are going to be side by side.

22. Tennessee Titans – Rashod Bateman – WR – Minnesota

They need offensive line but need a solid WR2 for AJ Brown to get open for Ryan Tannehill. I think they will fix up their O-Line in the deeper parts of the draft. The old saying of the later rounds are the bread-and-butter picks.

23. New York Jets Via Seahawks – Jaycee Horn – CB – South Carolina

I’m not going to find the list of the New York Jets ruining every single first round pick they blew on a defensive lineman. So I’m going corner. Horn will be a solid asset for a team that is going to be more competitive than people think. So, no change.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers – Kyle Trask – QB – Florida

I still think there is where it goes. And the Steeler fans are sighing in sadness because in this offseason it screams rebuild. Ben gone after a year and then the QB has a hole the size of Texas. And 2022 QB free agency is not looking great. Unless there is the thought of Mitch Trubisky, Marcus Mariota, or Jamis Winston coming to town. With the 2022 NFL QB Class looking bleak too, this looks it. Steelers are in a rough spot. No change here.

25. Jacksonville Jaguars Via Rams – Gregory Rousseau – Edge – Miami

It’s hard to determine what the Jags need after a great offseason and landing Trevor Lawrence. But can you have too much pass rush? Sacksonville 2.0.

26. Clevland Browns – Nick Bolton – LB – Missouri

No change here. I think he is a solid piece that the Browns really missed last year.

27. Baltimore Ravens – Azeez Ojulari – Edge – Georgia

The wide receiver spot needs work. Sammy Watkins is the answer. If he ends up being the answer, buy a lottery ticket. In the meantime, I see a Edge rusher unless the Ravens sign one. Not Jadeveon Clowney or Melvin Ingram, but maybe a Justin Houston or someone else.

28. New Orleans Saints – Asante Samuel Jr – CB – Florida State

I said Corner before the garbage going on with Lattimore. My thought still stands. No change.

29. Green Bay Packers – Kadarius Toney – WR – Florida

Easy Packers fans. No change. Enjoy your beer, don’t throw the cheese hat, and all that. And even with one of the Moore’s it is okay. Again, vertical aside I just like the height factor.

30. Buffalo Bills – Jaelen Phillips – Edge – Miami

The AFC runner up doesn’t need much. I think another line piece, but a little pass rush first and then with the O-Line depth in the draft they will be able to get someone.

31. Kansas City Chiefs – Alijah Vera-Tucker – OT – USC

This was a tough decision. O’Line or Edge? There are good OT’s available, and this is on top of everyone’s list. Though if the Chiefs like Radunz, Cosmi, or Leatherwood better it wouldn’t surprise me. Regardless #31 overall isn’t going to an Edge. Not when half a billion dollar man Mahomes needs protection badly.

32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Dillion Radunz – OT – North Dakota State

With Playoff Lenny resigning shocking everyone with coming back and four RB’s on the depth chart, I found it very hard to say put Najee Harris or another running back here. They need QB depth, but Brady is there… Safety would be a reach. With 22 Super Bowl starters back this is difficult. So why not the next offensive lineman on the board for depth for protecting the old man and the running game? Just my two cents.
